Awareness

Being alive is a strange burden to bear.
We’re given a conscious, which makes us aware.
It gives us deep thoughts, the ability to care--

It allows us to know the “you” and the “me”--
There are other perspectives than the one that I see.
That there’s a big picture, a philosophy.

Awareness gives us the ability to ponder,
It’s more than survival, our mind can wander
We create great things that make us fonder--

Of these thoughts we were given, that swirl in our head.
That make us aware that soon we’ll be dead.
That give us a fear of that unknown dread--

Where we’ll no longer be, so we’ll have no say,
Where these thoughts will cease as our bodies turn gray,
Where the world will move on from the place we lay.

We were given awareness only for it to be taken away.

Because the higher we reach, the more that we know.
The more that we know, the faster we grow.
The faster we grow, more thoughts overflow.

The more overflow, the worse we become.
Addicted to things that make us feel numb.
More addicted we get, the more painful outcome.

We realize, there’s so much we don’t get.
We just want to get a handle on it.
But the more thoughts we have, the more we are split.

The more wars we have, the more that we fight
Because someone somewhere thinks that he might,
Have the knowledge we need to make all things right.

But the thing we all wish as our minds do expand,
Is the one thing you wouldn’t and couldn’t have planned.
We want an end to it all, to no longer understand.

We were given awareness and we want it taken away,
Because it’s harder to know than to simply obey.
Without deeper thoughts, we’d all be okay.
